Yi LIANG, Ph.D.
Portfolio Manager
Dr. Liang joined Ortus in August 2012 and is a member of the Investment Committee. Before joining Ortus, he was the Chief Technology Officer of Mobim Technologies from 2007 to 2012, responsible for its advanced technology and architecture, product strategy and roadmap.
Dr. Liang has extensive experience in low-latency communications, large-scale architecture, and multimedia data processing. Before Mobim, he worked at Qualcomm from 2003 to 2007 where he was involved in mobile media products and technologies.
Dr. Liang received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University, and B.Eng. from Tsinghua University. He holds more than ten patents, published more than 20 cited papers in IEEE and ACM, and received the IEEE Multimedia Communications Best Paper Award in 2007.
Jim XIONG, Ph.D.,
Deputy Chief Investment Officer
Dr. Xiong re-joined Ortus in May 2018 (having previously acted in the same capacity from June 2014 to December 2015) and is a member of the Investment Committee.
Prior to joining Ortus, Dr. Xiong was the co-Chief Investment Officer at QFS Asset Management, where he spent over 15 years in research and managing investment programs. From 1996 to 1997, Dr. Xiong was Senior Analyst in the Financial Applications Group at Salomon Brothers. From 1995 to 1996, Dr. Xiong was a management scientist with General Electric and from 1993 to 1995, a team leader with CAE Electronics.
Dr. Xiong received his B.S. in Mathematics in 1985 from Wuhan University and his Ph.D. in Mathematics in 1993 from Rutgers University-New Brunswick.
Joe ZHANG
Portfolio Manager
Mr. Zhang joined Ortus in April 2014 and is a member of the Investment Committee.
Prior to Ortus, Mr. Zhang was co-Founder and Portfolio Manager of HighIsland Capital Partners, a global macro hedge fund with Asian focus. Between 2010 and 2012, Mr. Zhang was part of the Hong Kong team investing for GLG’s Emerging Market funds. Between 2003 and 2010, Mr. Zhang was an Executive Director at Morgan Stanley in Hong Kong, where he spearheaded the Asia ex-Japan rates and long-dated FX option business. Mr. Zhang began his career in 1994 with AIG Financial Products and spent time in both Connecticut and Tokyo, managing various portfolios including FX, Asian equities, and CDOs.
Mr. Zhang received a B.S. in Psychology from Beijing University in 1990 and two degrees from Dartmouth College in 1994: a M.S. in Computer Science and a M.A. in Psychology.
Yee Wai CHONG, Ph.D.
Portfolio Manager
Dr. Chong joined Ortus in November 2012 and is a member of the Investment Committee.
Prior to joining Ortus, Dr. Chong was a FX strategist at Morgan Stanley in Hong Kong from 2008. He covered Asia ex‐Japan currencies and co‐developed a probability analyzer for determining the implied distribution for G10 and EM currencies from option prices.
Dr. Chong received his A.B. in Economics (summa cum laude) from Princeton University in 2003 and a Ph.D. in Economics from Stanford University in 2008.

CFA, President
Mr. Sweeney joined Ortus in February 2019 as President. He sits on the Board of Directors and chairs the Operating Committee.
Prior to joining Ortus, Mr. Sweeney was Asia CEO for Millennium Capital Management, a U.S.-based multi-strategy hedge fund, a position he held for over 5 years. From 2010 to 2013 Mr. Sweeney was managing director and head of Senior Relationship Management for Barclays Capital for Non-Japan Asia. He spent a brief period at Nomura Securities in Hong Kong running NJA fixed income sales, and from 1992-2008 he worked for Lehman Brothers Asia, holding a number of senior roles across fixed income and equities, as well as sitting on the firm’s global fixed income operating committee. He was named HK country head for Lehman Brothers in 2004.
Originally from New York, he moved to Hong Kong in 1990 – initially working for Wardley-Thomson Securities – and has lived in Asia for 30 years. Mr. Sweeney graduated from Pace University, Cum Laude with a BBA in public accounting.

Dr. Zhou was a founding member of Ortus, sits on the Board of Directors and chairs the Investment Committee.
Prior to Ortus, Dr. Zhou co-founded Divergence Capital Management LLC. From 1997 to 2001, Dr. Zhou was the Head of Research at Quantitative Financial Strategies, Inc. From 1996 to 1997 Dr. Zhou was Assistant Professor of Finance at Washington University in St. Louis. Dr. Zhou started his career as a proprietary trader, first at Lehman Brothers, and then at Bear Stearns, where he traded a wide variety of futures and options contracts from 1993 to 1996.
Dr. Zhou received his B.S. in Mathematics from Wuhan University (Wuhan, China) and two degrees from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania: a M.A. in Statistics and a Ph.D. in Finance in 1993.
Francis T.F. YUEN,

He is also the independent non-executive deputy chairman of Pacific Century Regional Developments Limited, the shares of which are listed on the Main Board of the Singapore Stock Exchange, an independent non-executive director of Agricultural Bank of China Limited, the H shares of which are listed on the Main Board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange and the A shares of which are listed on the A Shares Market of the Shanghai Stock Exchange, Shanghai Industrial Holdings Limited and Yixin Group Limited, the shares of which are listed on the Main Board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange.
Mr. Yuen was formerly chief executive of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited (1988-1991), deputy chairman and executive director of the Pacific Century Group, deputy chairman and executive director of PCCW Limited and executive chairman of Pacific Century Insurance Holdings Limited.
Mr. Yuen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University of Chicago. He is the chairman of the board of trustees of the Hong Kong Centre for Economic Research, a member of the board of trustees of University of Chicago and Fudan University in Shanghai.
Sen DONG, Ph.D.,
Deputy Chief Investment Officer and Head of Research
Dr. Dong joined Ortus in July 2009. He is a member of the Investment Committee.
Prior to joining Ortus, Dr. Dong was the Chief FX Quantitative Strategist at Barclays Capital from 2008-2009, where he managed a team focusing on quantitative macro currency valuation framework, forecasting models and investment strategies. From 2006 to 2008, Dr. Dong was a quantitative FX strategist and later in charge of quantitative FX strategies at Lehman Brothers.
Dr. Dong received his B.S. in Management Science & Computer Science in 2000 from the University of Science and Technology of China, his M.A. in Finance in 2002 from the University of Hong Kong and his Ph.D. in Finance in 2006 from Columbia University.
Stewart BENT,
Head of Compliance
Mr. Bent joined Ortus in May 2016 and is a member of the Operating Committee.
He has been employed in the alternative fund industry for 25 years – initially in Bermuda and the Cayman Islands and, more recently, in Hong Kong. Immediately prior to joining Ortus, he was Managing Director at SS&C Technologies – responsible for SS&C’s GlobeOp business unit in the APAC region. Previous to that, he worked in progressively senior positions at other hedge fund administrators in Hong Kong, beginning with Bank of Bermuda in 2001. His offshore career began at Price Waterhouse Bermuda and included roles as Managing Director of a NASD-licensed broker-dealer and General Manager of a related investment advisor business; the Group ultimately listed on the New York Stock Exchange.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Dalhousie University, and is a Chartered Accountant (Canada).
Janita LEUNG,
Director of Finance
Ms. Leung joined Ortus in February 2011 and is a member of the Operating Committee.
Ms. Leung has over 20 years’ experience in financial services, and in particular fund accounting and administration. Prior to joining Ortus, Ms. Leung, held senior managerial roles in Hong Kong with both Fortis Prime Fund Solutions and HSBC Securities Services (following the acquisition of Bank of Bermuda). Prior to that, Ms. Leung was employed for almost 10 years at Merrill Lynch Mercury Asset Management in Australia.
Ms. Leung holds a Bachelor of Business in Accountancy from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Australia and a Master of Business Administration from the University of South Australia.
Ms. Leung is a member to the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Kevin TSE,
Head of Trading & Liquidity Management and Chief Operating Officer
Mr. Tse joined Ortus in April 2006 in Trading & Liquidity Management. He is a member of the Operating Committee.
He is responsible for trade execution, liquidity provider/prime broker evaluation and relationship management. Prior to Ortus, Mr. Tse was with Taifook Securities Limited (HKEx stock code: 0665) in its FX & Commodities unit from 2005, where he was responsible for sales, risk management and market-making for Taifook’s FX clients. Previously, Mr. Tse joined Hantec International (HKEx stock code: 0111) from 2003, where his responsibilities included sales and execution in FX and commodity futures contracts for high net worth clients.
Mr. Tse received his B.Sc. (Hon) in Mathematics in 2002 from Warwick University (UK).
